How to Use CarveWright Project Designer Software
CarveWright Project Designer is a powerful and easy-to-use software package that allows you to create and carve intricate designs with your CarveWright CNC system. Whether you want to make signs, furniture, decorations, or art, Project Designer has the tools you need to turn your ideas into reality.
In this article, we will show you how to use some of the basic features of Project Designer, such as setting up your project dimensions, placing and positioning patterns, adding text and textures, and uploading your project to the memory card. We will also introduce you to some of the advanced features and add-on modules that you can use to enhance your designs, such as importing images and vectors, drawing your own shapes, modeling and sculpting 3D patterns, and more.
Setting Up Your Project
The first step in using Project Designer is to set up your project dimensions. You can do this by clicking on the Board Settings icon on the toolbar or by selecting Board Settings from the Edit menu. A dialog box will appear where you can enter the width, length, and thickness of your board. You can also choose the board orientation (portrait or landscape), the quality settings (best, normal, or draft), and the bit optimization (on or off).
Once you have set up your board settings, you can start designing your project. You can use the mouse to navigate around the 3D view of your board. You can zoom in and out with the scroll wheel, pan by holding down the right mouse button and dragging, and rotate by holding down the left mouse button and dragging. You can also use the View menu or the icons on the toolbar to change the view angle (top, front, side, etc.) or switch between 3D and 2D views.
Placing and Positioning Patterns
Patterns are 3D shapes that you can place on your board and carve with your CNC machine. Project Designer comes with 50 included patterns that you can access from the Pattern Library icon on the toolbar or from the Insert menu. You can also download thousands of patterns from the CarveWright Pattern Depot or import your own STL files with the STL Slicer add-on module.
To place a pattern on your board, simply drag and drop it from the Pattern Library onto your board. You can then use the mouse or the arrow keys to move it around. You can also use the handles on the pattern to resize or rotate it. You can also use the Pattern Properties dialog box to adjust its depth, height, feathering, draft, orientation, alignment, and more.
You can place multiple patterns on your board and arrange them in different ways. You can use the Carving List icon on the toolbar or from the Edit menu to see all the patterns on your board and change their order or visibility. You can also use the Grouping icon on the toolbar or from the Edit menu to group patterns together or ungroup them. You can also use the Merge icon on the toolbar or from
the Edit menu to merge patterns together or unmerge them.
Adding Text and Textures
You can also add text and textures to your project with Project Designer. To add text, click on the Text Tool icon on the toolbar or select Text Tool from
the Insert menu. A dialog box will appear where you can enter your text, choose a font, size, style, alignment, spacing, and more. You can also choose whether you want your text to be rasterized (carved as an image) or outlined (carved as a vector). You can then click OK and place your text on your board. You can move,
resize, rotate, or edit your text as you would with a pattern.
To add a texture to your project, click on the Texture Tool icon on
the toolbar or select Texture Tool from
the Insert menu. A dialog box will appear where you can choose a texture from
the Texture Library or browse for an image file on your computer. You can also adjust
the texture size, interval,
angle,
and more.
You can then click OK
and draw a region on
your board where
you want

to be applied.
